Regional Fire Training Strengthens Centre Hastings and Area Departments

Regional Fire Training Strengthens Centre Hastings and Area Departments

Last week, from October 14-18, 2026, the Centre Hastings Fire Department, alongside neighbouring municipalities and fire departments, participated in the Mobile Live Fire Training Unit (MLFTU) program through the Ontario Fire College.

The MLFTU is a full-sized live fire training trailer designed to simulate realistic residential and commercial firefighting environments while providing a safe and controlled setting for hands-on firefighter training.

Throughout the training period, firefighters ranging from new recruits to experienced members participated in a variety of live fire and emergency response exercises. These evolutions focused on interior fire attack, search and rescue operations, ventilation techniques, firefighter survival skills, rapid intervention procedures, and teamwork under realistic fire conditions.

The training trailer features multiple burn rooms on two levels, including specialized areas capable of simulating rollover fire conditions. Firefighters trained in both above-grade and below-grade fire scenarios while utilizing various entry and exit points, allowing crews to experience realistic emergency situations that help build confidence, improve decision-making, and strengthen operational effectiveness.

Training alongside neighbouring departments also provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen mutual aid partnerships, improve communication between agencies, and enhance regional emergency preparedness. These valuable exercises help ensure firefighters are equipped with the skills and experience needed to respond safely and effectively when emergencies occur within our communities.

The Centre Hastings Fire Department remains committed to ongoing training and professional development, recognizing that regular hands-on training is essential to maintaining the highest level of service for residents.

The Centre Hastings Fire Department extends its sincere appreciation to all firefighters, instructors, support personnel, participating departments, and organizers who contributed to the success of this valuable training opportunity. The commitment, collaboration, and dedication demonstrated throughout the exercise helped create a safe and effective learning environment while strengthening the skills, knowledge, and partnerships that support emergency response across our region.

From October 14-18, firefighters from across the region trained, learned, and worked together to further enhance the safety and protection of the communities they proudly serve. Thank you to everyone who participated in and organized this exceptional training opportunity.
