National Legion Week September 20-26, 2026 : Honouring Service, Sacrifice, and Community

National Legion Week September 20-26, 2026, the Municipality of Centre Hastings proudly recognizes the important contributions of the Royal Canadian Legion, its members, and volunteers who work tirelessly to support veterans, promote remembrance, and strengthen our communities.

As a supportive municipal partner, Centre Hastings is proud to collaborate with the Madoc BIT, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 363, and community volunteers through the Honour Our Veterans Banner Program. Through this meaningful initiative, banners recognizing local veterans are displayed throughout our community, stretching from the hamlets and villages of Centre Hastings, including Ivanhoe, to the streets of the Village of Madoc.

This year, the program has grown to a total of 80 veteran banners, with six new banners added to honour additional local men and women who answered the call to serve. The banners are anticipated to be installed during Legions Week, serving as a visible reminder of the sacrifices, dedication, and courage of those who helped protect the freedoms we enjoy today.

The Municipality is also pleased to recognize the efforts of the Madoc BIT and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 363 in bringing new commemorative features to the community, including the recently installed Veteran Crosswalks located at the intersections of Durham Street & Elgin Street and Durham Street & St. Lawrence Street. These striking crosswalks help keep remembrance visible year-round and stand as a lasting tribute to local veterans and their service to Canada.

Members of Council were honoured to attend the recent Honour Our Veterans Banner Night at the Madoc Kiwanis Hall (Former Armoury) on Thursday, September 17th,2026. The evening brought together families, friends, and community members from Centre Hastings, Madoc, and neighbouring Tweed to celebrate and remember loved ones whose service is forever woven into the fabric of our communities.
