Who Can Access the Mobile Dental Clinic?
Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP) Clients The mobile clinic primarily serves seniors enrolled in the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program. Services provided by a dental hygienist include:
- Dental cleanings
- Fluoride treatments
- Oral health education
For seniors experiencing pain, infection, cavities, or other treatment needs, staff can help connect them with additional dental care. A full-time dentist at Southeast Public Health's Belleville office provides restorative and emergency dental services for eligible OSDCP clients.
Children and Youth (0-17 Years) The clinic also provides services for children and youth who:
- Do not have dental insurance
- Are not eligible for other government-funded dental programs
- Face barriers accessing dental care
Services may include screenings, preventive care, fluoride treatments, and oral health education. There is no income eligibility requirement for the children's program. Families simply need to attest that they are unable to access dental care through other means.
The program also supports families with young children (ages 1-4) who may have insurance or the ability to pay for dental care but are unable to obtain services because their child is too young for treatment at their regular dental office.
Helping Children Access Care
Southeast Public Health conducts dental screenings in schools across the region. When children are identified as benefiting from preventive services, care can often be provided in their community through the Mobile Dental Clinic, reducing travel barriers and improving access to care.
For children who require urgent treatment, staff can assist families with:
- Healthy Smiles Ontario enrolment
- Information about the Canadian Dental Care Plan
- Referrals to private dental offices and specialists
