Fire Prevention Week 2026: Soft Surface? Hard Pass.

The Municipality of Centre Hastings and the Centre Hastings Fire Department are proud to once again partner with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA®) to recognize Fire Prevention Week, taking place October 4-10, 2026.

This year's theme, "Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower!", highlights the importance of using and charging batteries and electronic devices safely at home, at work, and on the go.

Soft Surface? Hard Pass.
Always charge your devices on a hard, flat surface such as a table, desk, countertop, or floor. Avoid charging devices on beds, couches, blankets, or pillows.
Soft surfaces can trap heat and block airflow around the battery, increasing the risk of overheating and potentially causing a fire.

A simple change in where you charge your devices can make a big difference in keeping your home and family safe.
