The Municipality of Centre Hastings and the Centre Hastings Fire Department are proud to once again partner with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA®) to recognize Fire Prevention Week, taking place October 4-10, 2026.

This year's theme, "Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower!", highlights the importance of using and charging batteries and electronic devices safely at home, at work, and on the go.

Fully Charged? Time to Unplug.

Once your device is fully charged, unplug it. Leaving devices plugged in longer than necessary can increase heat and place unnecessary stress on the battery.

To help reduce the risk of battery failure and fire:

• Unplug devices when charging is complete
• Follow the manufacturer's charging instructions
• Keep devices away from direct sunlight and heat sources while charging
• Replace damaged batteries and charging cords promptly

Safe charging habits can help extend battery life and reduce fire risks in your home.
