Fire Prevention Week 2026: Feels Hot? Stop Using It.

The Municipality of Centre Hastings and the Centre Hastings Fire Department are proud to once again partner with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA®) to recognize Fire Prevention Week, taking place October 4-10, 2026.

This year's theme, "Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower!", highlights the importance of using and charging batteries and electronic devices safely at home, at work, and on the go.

Feels Hot? Stop Using It.

Stop using your device immediately if the battery:

• Smells unusual
• Feels hot to the touch
• Makes popping or hissing noises
• Changes shape or color
• Produces smoke

If it is safe to do so, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat, ignite, and cause a serious fire.

Knowing the warning signs and taking quick action can help protect your home, family, and community.

Stay tuned throughout Fire Prevention Week as we share more tips to help everyone in Centre Hastings stay safe.
