Centre Hastings Firefighters Climb 110 Stories to Honour 9/11 Victims

CENTRE HASTINGS — On September 11th, a team of local volunteer firefighters marked the 25th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks by pushing themselves through a punishing physical trial in memory of the fallen.

Six volunteer firefighter from the Centre Hastings Fire Department—Aden McColl, Chuck Davis, Chris Hoftyzer, Dave Boyle, Dalton Gooderham, and Kendra Vesterfelt—completed a symbolic 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb during a tribute held at Planet Fitness in Belleville.

To mirror the immense height of the World Trade Center towers, the participants scaled a total of 2,200 steps—the exact equivalent of 110 flights of stairs. Raising the stakes of an already demanding task, every firefighter conquered the entire distance in full structural turnout gear.

This demanding tribute was undertaken to pay quiet respect to the victims and to express profound gratitude for the historic bravery of the first responders who rushed toward danger while others fled.

Decades later, the Centre Hastings Fire Department remains steadfast in its vow to honour their legacy.
