Centre Hastings Fire Department Presents: Fire Prevention Week 2026: Charge Into Fire Safety!
October 4-10, 2026 | Safe Charging Is a Superpower™
The Municipality of Centre Hastings and the Centre Hastings Fire Department are proud to once again partner with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA®) to recognize Fire Prevention Week, taking place October 4-10, 2026.
This year's theme, "Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower!", highlights the importance of using and charging batteries and electronic devices safely at home, at work, and on the go.
From smartphones and tablets to power tools, e-bikes, and other rechargeable devices, batteries play an important role in our daily lives. While these technologies provide convenience, improper charging, damaged batteries, or unsafe charging practices can increase the risk of fire. Fire Prevention Week is an opportunity for residents to learn simple steps that can help keep families, homes, businesses, and our community safe.
Throughout the week, the Municipality of Centre Hastings and the Centre Hastings Fire Department will be sharing important fire safety information, practical charging tips, and educational resources to help residents make safer choices when using rechargeable devices.
Safe Charging Tips:
✅ Use only manufacturer-approved charging equipment and batteries.
✅ Charge devices on hard, flat surfaces and away from anything that can burn.
✅ Never charge devices under pillows, on beds, or on upholstered furniture.
✅ Replace damaged cords, batteries, and charging equipment immediately.
✅ Avoid overloading electrical outlets and power bars.
✅ Follow manufacturer instructions for charging and storing batteries.
✅ Keep exits and escape routes clear in case of an emergency.
Fire safety starts with awareness and prevention. By taking a few simple precautions, we can all help reduce the risk of fires and keep our families, neighbours, and community safe.
